How it works
01
FAIR FLY
FAIR FLY is a modern online site logbook for hang gliding and paragliding. It is designed as Software as a Service (SaaS) for site operators who do not want to run their own IT infrastructure. Paid use is simple and prepaid for the current flying season, offering 24/7 availability with no financial risk.
No contract commitment.
No subscription.
-
To do
One-time registration of the site in FAIR FLY.
Link to site information, guest flight regulations, and local weather stations.
Set capacities for club and guest pilots and upload mobile numbers of club pilots. -
Finances
Collecting guest flight fees requires a PayPal merchant account (WERO in preparation). Revenue goes directly to the account of the site operator, with no detour. Transaction fees are billed collectively at the start of the following season, according to the FAIR FLY principle.
-
GDPR
Personal data is automatically anonymised according to the settings defined by the site operator and in compliance with the GDPR, as soon as it is no longer needed. The remaining data is free of personal information and available for download for any statistics.
02
Pilot Check-in
By using FAIR FLY, pilots actively support site operators and launch marshals in ensuring safe flight operations. With their guest flight fees, guest pilots contribute significantly to maintaining existing sites and developing new ones. This is also a fair contribution to the clubs and their members, whose volunteer work keeps flying sites running long-term.
-
GPS location
Finding the desired flying site is as simple as entering the site or operator name. With GPS location enabled on the smartphone, FAIR FLY automatically detects the current location and lists the matching site at the top.
-
Quick check-in
A green button signals an opened site and leads directly to the check-in form. All check-in information can be stored securely and encrypted on the smartphone, enabling a convenient check-in in just three clicks.
-
Online payment
At sites with a guest flight fee, payment can be made online via PayPal directly during check-in. After a successful check-in, the valid ticket is displayed as a QR code and can be retrieved again at any time.
03
Dashboard
FAIR FLY doesn't just show a site's current occupancy. It also supports launch marshals with a clear dashboard providing a structured, real-time list of all currently checked-in pilots across all of the operator's sites.
-
Dashboard
Launch marshals see the first and last name of registered pilots and can distinguish between club and guest pilots.
-
Aircraft information
Colour, manufacturer, registration number, or call sign of the aircraft can optionally be displayed if this information is requested during check-in.
-
Emergency contact
In an emergency, the mobile number of the respective pilot is directly available to the launch marshal.
Pricing
The FAIR FLY Principle
FAIR FLY gives clubs, flight schools and other site operators more than just a digital tool for managing flight operations - it also offers a modern solution for selling guest flight tickets. The revenue from this cashless ticket sales secures the continued existence and development of flying sites.
Fairly distributed: the cost structure
Operating FAIR FLY's technical infrastructure and continuously developing it requires financial resources, which is why the service cannot be offered for free. The open pricing model makes it transparent that the usage fee consists of a fixed monthly rate plus small transaction fees for each guest flight ticket sold.
Thus, FAIR FLY is financed mainly through the fees paid by guest pilots, and costs are covered by revenue. This takes the load off clubs and their own pilots, who already secure their flying sites through membership fees and volunteer work.
That's exactly the FAIR FLY principle.

FAQ
How can I register for a FAIR FLY account?❯
Pilots who want to register via FAIR FLY for a flight from a specific launch site simply sign in with their name and mobile number. No account of your own is required for this.
Site operators who want to use FAIR FLY for their flying operations please submit a request via the contact form and receive an account after successful review. This step is necessary to prevent misuse in the interest of all site operators and to rule out legal, tax, and insurance-related complications.
Why isn't FAIR FLY free?❯
FAIR FLY is commercial software for a specialized market. Development and operation incur costs, which are covered via the FAIR FLY principle. General advertising is deliberately avoided in order to preserve FAIR FLY's independence and neutrality. In the future, the only conceivable option is the inclusion of advertising partners from the immediate hang gliding and paragliding community.
Clubs and site operators, however, can already use FAIR FLY for limited sponsorship and thus refinance their costs.
Where can I find information about prices and contract terms?❯
FAIR FLY is a prepaid service that does away entirely with term contracts or subscriptions. The service is paid for in advance at the start of a flying season, covering the season through to its end. Transfer fees accrued during the current season are invoiced together with the advance payment for the following flying season at the start of that season. This approach is based on mutual trust and is an essential part of the FAIR FLY principle for minimizing financial risk.

Why can't I use FAIR FLY as an app?❯
FAIR FLY is a modern web application that runs on all common browsers and operating systems and offers all the advantages of an app without requiring an installation. Modern browsers can also save web applications as an icon on the home screen, allowing FAIR FLY to be used just like an app.
FAIR FLY doesn't recognize me as a club pilot, only as a paying guest pilot?❯
In this case, please contact your club or site operator. Member data is managed there and stored in FAIR FLY.
I have a problem with a PayPal payment. Who can I contact?❯
Payments via FAIR FLY are processed directly through the respective site operator's PayPal account. For all payment-related questions, the site operator is therefore your direct point of contact.
I don't have a PayPal account. How can I still pay?❯
PayPal also allows payment by direct debit or credit card. Simply click the PayPal button and, in the login window, select the option Pay with debit or credit card. This also works without a PayPal account.
Why can't I pay with WERO in FAIR FLY?❯
Support for WERO online payments is still under development. Unlike instant transfers between private individuals, WERO payments for online purchases require the integration of certified payment service providers. As soon as these providers make the relevant interfaces available, WERO will also become available as a payment method in FAIR FLY.
What happens to personal data in FAIR FLY?❯
In compliance with the GDPR, FAIR FLY collects only strictly necessary data. This data is automatically anonymised after the period defined by the site operator. Stored phone numbers are protected using modern pseudonymisation/hashing (SHA-256).
FAIR FLY uses only technically necessary cookies. Check-in data is only stored locally on a device if desired, where it can be viewed and deleted directly via FAIR FLY at any time. No tracking or sharing of data with third parties takes place.
Is FAIR FLY software of the German Hang Gliding Federation (DHV)?❯
FAIR FLY is a fully independent Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution provided by ustra UG. The flying site data comes from the site operators using the service as well as from publicly available DHV sources.
